Kaymer Gets Dialed In on Florida Swing
March 19th, 2008
Titleist ambassador Martin Kaymer spent time on the range recently with Titleist Tour Consultant Fordie Pitts to analyze his driver launch conditions. Kaymer, currently ranked 23rd in the Official World Golf Rankings, is in Florida to compete in last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational and this week’s WGC-CA Championship. He’ll also garner an invitation to the Masters Tournament in a few weeks by maintaining his spot inside the top 50 of the OWGR. You can read more about the 23-year-old German in this recent article published on Golfweek.com.
And for those of you who are curious, Martin’s launch monitor data showed ball speed at 168 mph, 8° launch angle, and 2500 rpm spin rate. Be sure to check out the photos from Martin’s range session with Fordie.

Hey guys,
Great stuff on a fast moving world ranked player. Did Fordie prescribe an optimal driver fit?
Fordie fit him into 8.5° 905R with a UST Accra Axiv XC 65 X-flex shaft at 45¼”. Martin wanted to work with the driver a little more before gaming it, though.
Need to get back in the swing of things now.
Great look at Kaymer’s clubs. Was he playing the 695MBs? If so, what would he say is the difference between the 695MBs and the new Z Muscle Forged?
Martin was not under contract with us prior to this year, so he previously played another manufacturer’s irons.
Isn’t an 8° launch angle a little bit too low? Or is he just one of those players that prefers to keep it low? Wouldn’t he gain both accuracy and length by increasing the launch to around 12°?
From Fordie:
Just wanted to say that the new Titleist Z•Ms rock; just an awesome iron. I got them on Saturday and shot my lowest round to date on Sunday. They seem a little more forgiving than the 695MBs; not sure if the enhanced “Z” has something to do with that but that trait is welcome in any event. Good job Titleist!
