Two Weeks, Two Wins for the new Titleist Irons

Titleist ambassador Adam Scott fired a sizzling final round 11-under 61 to earn a three-shot win at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters. It was his second victory in two tries at the event, as well as his 13th career win as a professional. Adam advanced to World Number Four with the record-setting performance in which he shaved two strokes off the course record, while achieving his personal best round as a professional. His 20-under par 268 total matched the tournament record previously set in 1999. He started the final round three shots off the lead, and posted five birdies in the first five holes. He had 11 birdies and no bogeys on the day.
Adam becomes the first player to win with the new Titleist AP2 irons, a week after Titleist ambassador Martin Kaymer’s victory at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship playing the new Titleist Z•M Forged irons.
Martin earned his first career PGA European Tour title when he captured the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in wire-to-wire fashion. The 23-year old, who was the 2007 European Tour Rookie of the Year, posted a 15-under par 273 total and a winning margin of four shots over a pair of players ranked among the Top 25 in the world. He became the youngest German winner in European Tour history and moved into the top 35 on the Official World Golf Ranking.

Have you considered releasing an all cavity-back Z Forged set?
695CB irons are still available for custom order for those consumers desiring a Z cavity set.
It seems to me that the majority of golfers upgrade their clubs whenever the new models come out. I have been hitting my DCI 962s since I bought them new and haven’t even considered buying a new set until I saw the new AP2 Forged Irons recently. I would just like to know, in your opinion, if you think the technology advancements of the new AP2 irons compared to my DCIs would make that much of a difference to my game (my handicap is a 9)? I just don’t think they would improve my game enough to justify upgrading. What do you think?

What putter did Adam use to win this week and have you got any bag images of his new line-up?
Adam used a prototype Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Mid Slant in his win in Qatar. As Christopher notes above, Adam is in town this week at our test facility working with Butch Harmon, so we’ll try to catch up with him and get some images.
I understand Adam Scott and Butch Harmon are with you this week at the Titleist Performance Institute. It would be great to see some photos and maybe a write up on his visit with Titleist.
Adam Scott appears to have pulled out the 47° PW from his AP2 set and gone with a 50° Vokey Wedge, which if nothing changed would leave a loft difference of 7° between the 9 iron and 50° wedge. I’m assuming all lofts have been tweaked to allow more consistent yardage gaps between irons. I’d love to know what the lofts are from his 2 iron through to the 50° (if it’s still 50).
Adam’s Titleist AP2 irons are all 1° weaker than standard, which leaves him with a 44° 9-iron. His 50° Vokey Design pitching wedge is bent 1° strong to 49°.
Congrats on the immediate success of the new irons (as seen by the wins over the last few weeks). I look forward to trying these irons as soon as they arrive in Canada. A few quick questions:
1) Are the players sticking with the standard lofts in the new irons or are they bending them stronger/weaker?
2) Why is the Precision Project X shaft standard in the AP2 irons and not the Dynamic Gold (like in the Z•B Forged/Z•M Forged irons)?
3) Is the March release date applicable to Canada as well or do we have to wait a bit longer?
The loft specs on the new AP2, Z•B Forged, and Z•M Forged irons are based off of what we call our Tour standard that starts with a 47° pitching wedge. The lofts on the AP1 irons are slightly stronger (45° PW). Extremely positive feedback for the Project X 5.5 in consumer testing with the AP2 irons was a factor in the decision to make it the stock shaft. Dynamic Gold will be readily available as a standard option for custom orders if desired. The new Titleist irons will be available in golf shops worldwide in late March.
Adam was definitely on fire on Sunday. I really hope that he can take a step forward on tour this year. Do you have a calendar available for any demo days on your new iron releases?

Awesome to see Adam Scott winning in a big way with the AP2 irons. They look fantastic and there’s a good chance they will tip me back into a full set of Titleist Irons and Vokey Wedges. I really like the way the new AP1 and AP2 irons take into account the differences in the ball speeds players produce. I’m also glad you’ve got a couple of good options for graphite shafts in your irons that are much closer in weight to steel shafts than the graphite shafts of old. I play graphite because they’re the only thing that keeps my elbow from flaring up…so I really like the fact that you’ve got two good graphite shafts to choose from. I previously had a set of 735.CMs which I loved and shot my lowest scores with…but the steel shafts killed my temperamental elbow. Anyway, I’m certain these new irons will be LOVED by plenty of golfers and I can’t wait to have a swing of them myself.
