Billy Mayfair with the New 907 Drivers

Titleist ambassador Billy Mayfair was working with both the new 907D1 and 907D2 drivers today on the practice range. After playing the Pro Titanium 905R for 13 of the first 14 tournaments this year, he has had the 907D1 in the bag for three consecutive weeks, which included a T13 finish at the Memorial.

“Both are very good,” said Mayfair after hitting the drivers for a good 15 minutes. “With the 907D1, I drive the ball a lot straighter and it keeps the ball flight down for me which is great when the fairways are hard and fast. I’m working with the 907D2 to use on days when it’s wet and soft because I get more carry distance. I really like both.”

Another long, straight drive with the 907D1.

New Vokey Wedges for Robert Gamez

Robert Gamez was in the Tour Van this morning looking to try out a couple different lob wedges. He currently plays a Vokey Design 60° with 10° of bounce. He wants a little less bounce, so Rick Nelson recommended he try 60T and 60V prototypes. The wedges have a similar grind profile and each offers less bounce and a narrower sole than the 60° Robert is currently playing. The 60V does have slightly more bounce than the 60T, however. Local Flavor at the Travelers Championship

Titleist Pro V1 player J.J. Henry is not only the local favorite at the Travelers Championship having grown up in nearby Fairfield, but he is also the defending champion, breaking through with his first career PGA TOUR victory here last year. In a wide-ranging interview in the Media Center, J.J. said his game is in great shape following his performance at the CVS Caremark Charity Classic on Monday and Tuesday. He also discussed Oakmont, time management, and the three-hole stretch (15-17) at TPC River Highlands known as the Golden Triangle.

J.J. talks to the media.

Titleist ambassador Brad Faxon, who won the 2005 Buick Championship (now Travelers Championship) with a memorable 7-iron shot out of a bunker on the first playoff hole (#18), also met with the media this morning.
