Adam Scott visits the Tour Van

June 12th, 2007

Titleist ambassador Adam Scott visited the Tour van last week in Memphis to pick up a new PT 906F2 fairway in preparation for this week’s U.S. Open. Adam posted his second top ten finish over the past two weeks at the Stanford St. Jude Championship and the Memorial Tournament. He’ll look to keep that momentum going when he tees it up Thursday at Oakmont Country Club in suburban Pittsburgh.

Has there been any more information on exactly when the new staff bags shown above will be available to the public?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on October 3, 2007 at 9:35 am

The new style Titleist staff bags will be available in golf shops in early 2008.

Wow, those bags are fantastic! I love them…the red is fitting perfectly with the great black Titleist style! You have to release those bags quickly!

Hi, I’ve been a fan of the site since it launched. I’m a Titleist loyalist and have a bag full of Titleist Clubs. I really like the second prototype bag, is it something between a staff and stand bag? I don’t see the belly that the big 10.5″ staff bag has.

Something I would love to see Titleist release is a bigger stand bag, with a bigger divider top and a sturdier stand mechanism. I’d love to see a bag released in the US and Canada similar to the ones in Japan. Even better…take that second prototype staff bag, throw a good stand mechanism on it, add a putter well - and sign me up for 2 of them right now!

The new staff bags are awesome, seriously.

When will the second prototype bag be introduced on Tour?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on June 20, 2007 at 1:45 pm

The second prototype bag (pictured below) is being introduced this week at the Travelers Championship. Titleist ambassadors Stephen Leaney, Tom Pernice Jr., and Brett Quigley, along with their caddies, will be testing the bag this week.

The first prototype bag looks absolutely fantastic. My full compliment of Titleist clubs would look good in that huge bag. Please release it soon Titleist, it will look great on my home course and on Tour!

Hello, thank you very much for this great Tour blog. Have you got any dates when you are going to release this bag? It’s wonderful.

Per the comment above, we are still testing two prototype bags with a handful of players and caddies on the PGA Tour. After reviewing feedback from both the players and caddies we will arrive at the new design for the Titleist staff bag to be introduced later this year.

Allow me to make one suggestion: Don’t make the outer material out of a porous fabric. I had a non-Titleist staff bag that was made from a fabric and when it rained, the bag soaked up the water like a sponge. Titleist’s current staff bag is made of a vinyl material that is water-resistant which is good. It appears, from the picture above, that the prototype bag utilizes some fabric that would be susceptible to water. While a fabric lighter in weight than vinyl may be attractive, it’s a pain to have to dry out one’s entire bag. Just my two cents.

I was watching the U.S. Open and saw that Adam was using a new staff bag. It looked like it had some red on it. Thanks!

We are testing two prototype bags on the PGA Tour and based on caddie and player feedback we will determine the final design. The first of the two prototype bags was introduced last week in Memphis (see the photo of Tom Pernice’s bag below), and is the style that Adam is using this week in the U.S. Open.

This Titleist tour bag is really nice. I would love one. I really like the look of this one and think my new 695MB forged irons would look really good as well as the 907D1 driver I have just purchased.

This is a very nice bag, I want to buy it when it is in the shop.

Can you bend a driver a degree stronger without affecting its lie or face setup? I’m thinking about doing it to my 983K, from 11.5° to 10.5°.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on June 14, 2007 at 4:55 pm

If you bend the driver to adjust loft, it will likely also affect the face angle.

Dan wrote on June 15, 2007 at 7:50 am

How would it affect the face angle? I’m curious.

I noticed that under the “flex” heading, the work order read: “same tipping as 3-wood”. How much is Adam’s 3-wood tipped? Also, are his irons, hybrid, or driver tipped at all?
In addition, what are Adam’s typical launch conditions with a driver?

Fraser wrote on June 12, 2007 at 7:41 pm

I notice that on Adam’s Tour Van Work Order it says shaft: NV Blue By You 95. Is this shaft a blue Aldila NV or is it an Aldila VS Proto? Also, is Adam’s shaft the same as a person could buy at retail? Thanks.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on June 12, 2007 at 7:47 pm

It’s the Aldila VS Proto 95 Fairway shaft, which is the same shaft a consumer can get at a golf shop.

I see that you bent Adam’s fairway from 18° to 16.5°. My question is, is the PT 906F2 easier to bend than most other fairways or is it just as hard/uncommon to do? I have always heard that it’s hard or not common to bend or manipulate the lofts on fairways. And lastly, can you comment on why Adam chose to bend an 18° instead of a 15°? Does it have anything to do with lie angle or setup/leading edge to the ground?

How is a club bent to manipulate loft?

Matt wrote on June 12, 2007 at 3:14 pm

Is this Adam’s 3-wood or is this his 5-wood?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on June 12, 2007 at 3:28 pm

We typically refer to our fairways by their loft. The 16.5° PT 906F2 was the only fairway Adam carried last week at the Stanford St. Jude Championship

Matt wrote on June 12, 2007 at 3:56 pm

Right, that’s what I was referring to. I usually just say my 15° and 18°. Thanks.
