From the Practice Putting Green at THE PLAYERS

We thought we’d share a few more photos from the practice putting green and with Scotty Cameron highlighting the final day of preparations for THE PLAYERS. The TPC creation below is the handiwork of Titleist Tour Rep Jim Curran. It has become a weekly tradition for Jim to come up with a daily design that is applicable to the event or city in which the Tour is playing. Jim is seen in the next photo talking with Stan Utley and a Tour player about some of the Scotty Cameron putters available to try out. Finally, we caught up with Scotty as he was working on the putter of a longtime Scotty loyalist in the Tour Van. View the rest of the pictures…

More Scotty Tour Putters

We posted an entry yesterday that highlighted the different headcover and grip options available in the Tour Van for Scotty Cameron putters. As you can imagine, headcovers and grips aren’t the only things Scotty can customize for our guys on Tour. The Black X below is for Titleist ambassador and Tour winner Charley Hoffman. The Black X is a Tour model of the Red X that features a charcoal finish, Tour-only sole plate, and face with no insert. Charley’s putter is 35" and has a red Winn grip. Be sure to check out ScottyCameron.com often for updates and slide shows highlighting our involvement on Tour.

New Vokey Wedge for Daisuke Maruyama

Here’s a shot of the Spin Milled TVD 60° I made up for Daisuke Maruyama this week. He was playing a standard Vokey Design 260.08 pretty much all season, but saw another player’s TVD model and asked if he could try one last week at the Wachovia Championship. Unfortunately, I only had a few 60° heads on hand and had already used them to build wedges for Brad Faxon, Zach Johnson and another player. Instead, I made him up a 58° TVD and bent it to 59°. I made him his 60° and left it in his locker as soon as I got the new heads in on Monday. I just saw him on the range and he said he loves it. There’s not a lot of switching of wedges this week and I think a lot of it has to do with the course conditions being very similar to what the players saw at Quail Hollow last week.

Arron Oberholser works with Scotty at THE PLAYERS

Arron Oberholser spent some time in the Tour Van today with Scotty Cameron. Arron has adjusted his set-up to where his arms are more relaxed and less mechanical, and wanted to try a little longer length. He asked Scotty to make a couple Circa 62 No. 6 putters at 36″, an inch longer than he normally plays, and 2° flat. Arron put the Circa 62 No. 6 with the Charcoal Mist finish in his bag for the first time at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship. According to Arron, the B-Back design of the No. 6 model looks better to his eye, and he loves the sound which he translates into better feel. One of the new putters is made of German Stainless Steel (GSS) with a chrome finish, while the other is Carbon Steel with a gun-blued Tour Black finish. Arron plans to work with the putters during the week to determine which he’ll use as his gamer at THE PLAYERS. View more pictures…
