What are the flexes in their shafts? X100 or S400 ?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 23, 2007 at 11:56 am

Both players use X flex shafts in their irons, Zach’s are soft stepped. For more on this, please read the comments here.

Is Ryuji’s PT 906F2 YS-6+ X flex or tipped? Seems like he prefers a different feel compared to his driver.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 23, 2007 at 11:59 am

Ryuji’s PT 906F2 has an X flex YS-6+ shaft, no tipping.

I have always had it in my head that the 3-wood shaft should be a little heavier than that in the driver. Obviously, that is not the case with Mr. Imada. Would you have time to discuss the thinking behind his shaft selection? Perhaps he likes a little more launch in the 3 wood?

Good to see the 503.H still getting some Tour play. I love mine, it’s my go to club. Does Titleist have any plans to update the 503.H or come out with a new “iron like” hybrid to complement the 585.H? Thanks.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 23, 2007 at 12:11 pm

We’re glad that you’re getting some good use out of your 503.H utility iron. For competitive purposes, our policy is not to discuss products that may or may not be in development.

What shaft is Tommy Armour III currently playing in his driver? Also, is he using Vokey Design wedges? Any feedback you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!!!

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 23, 2007 at 6:04 pm

Tommy had a Mitsubishi Diamana 73 in his 907D4 prototype driver at last week’s AT&T Classic. He did not have any Vokey Design wedges in his bag for that event.

Just an observation…in the picture above of Zach, it looks like a 735.CM 3 or 4 iron, but the small plate that is usually in the back of the cavity that says 735 on it doesn’t appear to be there on his. Did he remove them? If so, what is the purpose? Love the blog - keep it coming!

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 24, 2007 at 2:20 pm

That’s the same 735.CM we sell in golf shops. Please see the close-up of Zach’s club below.

Do the headweights and swingweights of the steel shafted (DG S300) standard consumer PT 906F2 differ from the graphite models? How about for the steel shafted PT 585.H versus the graphite models? What are the standard swingweights, specifically for the PT 906F2 15° and PT 585.H 19°, both in DG S300? Thank you.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 24, 2007 at 2:28 pm

The weights of the heads we use for steel shafted PT 906F2 fairways and PT 585.H utilities are lighter than the heads we use for their graphite shafted counterparts. This ensures that all of the fairways and utilities have a swingweight around D3, regardless of shaft type.

It was great to see two awesome players battle it out.

Just wondering if there is a way to determine what shaft is right for you. With all the shafts out there, it seems unmanageable to consider them all, even with the help of an authorized Titleist fitter. What do the pros do to determine what shaft is right for them. Do they rely on a launch monitor?

Thanks.

p.s. the new Pro V1x balls are amazing!!

Do many of your players use Graphite Design shafts in their woods or do they stick with companies like Aldila and UST? I saw that Imada used them and I was curious. Also, do any of your players use oversize grips or do most of them stick with the standard size? I know that both of these are feel based for the players but any response you could give would be appreciated.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 29, 2007 at 3:13 pm

Our Titleist ambassadors use a variety of shafts in their woods. Check out this page on Titleist.com for more information. Regarding grips, most of our players use standard grip sizes, and will customize the size of their grips with additional layers of tape if necessary.

From your experience, do you find that the weight of a shaft effects ball flight, particularly with regard to trajectory?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 29, 2007 at 3:23 pm

Shaft weight has a negligible effect on ball flight. The shaft’s kick point is the major contributing factor that determines the golf ball’s launch angle and trajectory. The lower the kick point on the shaft, the higher the trajectory you will acheive.

I am currently trying to reduce the spin rate of my driver (905R). I have a Speeder S shaft in it at the moment. Should I be switching to the 907D2 to lower spin? Is there a better shaft available from Titleist to help my cause? Thanks.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on June 7, 2007 at 8:10 pm

We recommend consulting with an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner with the tools to conduct a Driver Fitting so that you can try out several different head and shaft combinations. This will allow you to optimize your driver launch conditions.

I was wondering what Titleist has found to be the average driver launch conditions (ball speed, swing speed, launch angle, spin rate, etc.) for PGA Tour players? Also, what are the stats of various Titleist Tour players like Adam Scott, Ryuji Imada, Davis Love, etc. I’m curious to see how these players compare.

What are the reasons that Zach uses 735.CM 3 and 4 irons and 695CB 5-9 irons?

Gary wrote on August 26, 2007 at 7:20 pm

If you have Dynamic Gold X100 shafts in your 3-PW, should you have the same shaft in your Vokey 54° and 56° wedges?
