Inside the Titleist Tour Van

May 15th, 2007

Last week from THE PLAYERS, we showed you some of the custom putter covers and grips available in the Titleist Tour Van, as well as the new Tour Van that made its debut in Korea. We thought you might be interested in a closer look at some of the other features of the Van that services the PGA Tour. Hope you enjoy…be sure to let us know if you have any questions!

Can you tell me about the Diamana Blue shafts made in China and made in Japan? Do both have different specs? How could I know which is made in China and which is made in Japan? Which one will work better for the new 909D2?

We recommend contacting Mitsubishi Rayon directly for the answers to your questions.

I’m going to re-shaft a set of AP1s with Dynamic Gold X100s. In pulling the True Temper DG SL shafts, I noticed a plastic plug in the shaft tip. Can you explain what it is and why it was used? Do I need to plug the end of the new shafts? Were they used to stabilize or center the shaft upon installation? Thanks!

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on November 3, 2008 at 3:57 pm

The plugs are called a feel intensifiers, and Titleist uses them in the steel shafts to dampen vibration. You do not need them when re-shafting your set and this will not effect the playability.

Where can I find the small plastic plugs that go into the bottom of the golf club heads? I am replacing the shafts on a set of 735.CMs and would like to have some available in case I need them. Thanks in advance!

Shaft plugs for finishing thru-bore irons can be purchased from most stores that carry club building or repairing supplies. You can also contact the Titleist Golf Club Repairs department at 1-800-742-7609 for help with getting your 735.CMs re-shafted.

I bought a set of 735.CMs off of Ebay and they only came with one serial number on the 6-iron. The rest of the clubs do not have serial numbers. I went to a golf shop by my house and he had some used Titleist irons of a different model and they to only had the serial number on the 6 iron. My friend’s 735.CMs have the serial number on each club. Do you think mine are fake?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on October 3, 2008 at 7:57 pm

Stock Titleist irons are serialized only on the 6-iron, whereas those ordered through our custom department are serialized on each club. It is likely that your clubs are legitimate.

Hello! I am a certified club repair technician and golf equipment nut. I have been involved with the game of golf for almost 20 years and have always searched for the perfect golf job. I am VERY curious to find out how I could obtain a job as a field technician on a tour van. Thanks! Hit ‘em well!

I have a set of CB irons with no logo on them. They have only the numbers on the sole of the irons with a serial number 1001891 on the hosel of the 6-iron. Are these Tour irons?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on July 17, 2008 at 7:43 pm

The hosel code you referenced matches a custom club order for 690CB irons. Please consult with whomever you purchased the clubs from to determine what happened to the stampings on the clubheads.

I want a 64° Vokey Spin Milled wedge but people tell me it’s impossible to get unless you can get it from the Tour Van. Would it be possible to buy from the van?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on March 11, 2008 at 12:16 pm

Vokey Design wedges are not currently offered in 64° lofts. We do not sell clubs directly to consumers from the Titleist Tour Van.

Hello, I recently obtained a set of 755 irons and the serial number on this set is upside down on the 6 iron and the engraving of the numbers is a little offline. Any chance this could be a custom set from your Tour Van?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on March 3, 2008 at 7:32 pm

This is unlikely. More likely is that these clubs may be counterfeits. Be sure to always purchase your Titleist equipment from an Authorized Titleist Golf Shop.

I was just wondering, I have an Oil Can Spin Milled Vokey wedge and I want to put my initials on it. If I were to do that, how much will it be. I heard from somebody that if you buy a shaft from the van then you can get free stampings, is that true?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on July 9, 2007 at 11:11 am

This service is not currently offered.

I would like to know what handicap and swing speed is best for the Titleist 755 irons. I bought the 905R six months ago and am really pleased with it. That is why I would like to purchase a set of Titleist irons. My swing speed is not very fast, I play with regular steel shafts. I am a 10 handicap, and like to work the ball around while still having slight forgiveness.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on June 7, 2007 at 8:07 pm

We’re glad you like your new Pro Titanium 905R driver. To determine which of the Titleist irons are best suited for your game, you should consult with an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner.

What kind of background does it take to get a job on the Tour van? What qualifications do you look for?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 29, 2007 at 3:31 pm

Titleist Tour Representative positions very rarely become available. When they do, we look for someone with an expert background in club fitting and building, among many other attributes.

JoeB wrote on May 21, 2007 at 1:57 am

I like a heavier swing weight on the driver (around D5), but I also play the driver at about 44½”. Is this a possible custom option with the new 907D2?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 21, 2007 at 2:50 pm

This may be possible depending upon the shaft that you would like installed. Your best bet would be to contact a Titleist Golf Club Customer Service Representative to discuss the possible options.

Recently my wedges started rusting slightly after being played with in severely wet weather. They are both Spin Milled chrome versions and are quite new. What should I do?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 18, 2007 at 10:47 am

This is likely a reaction to fertilizer on the golf course. The oxidation caused by the fertilizer should not effect the club’s performance, and may even be removed with the use of common household cleaning products. If you do notice, though, that the club head begins to pit from rust, the club can be returned to our Warranty Repair Department.

Can a consumer request that their driver, fairway, or utility be bent open when placing an order for Titleist clubs? Do golf shops have access to your custom bending jigs to help deal with their Titleist consumer requests?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 16, 2007 at 4:08 pm

Loft and lie adjustments on drivers, fairways, and utilities are not available on consumer orders. Please check the individual product pages on Titleist.com for other custom capabilities.

How often do you get a new Tour Van? Do the graphics change as new equipment comes out?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 16, 2007 at 4:08 pm

We try to keep the graphics on the Van up-to-date with current inline product, but it’s difficult to make any changes once the Tour season begins since we’re on the road every week. Also, we keep the artwork consistent on each of our five Tour Vans around the world, so any graphics changes require extensive coordination.

Ours is made by Featherlite Inc.

This comment has nothing to do with this post, but I hope you can answer my question. I am looking at getting the 735.CM irons. I really like them, but they have been out on the market for almost 2 years. Any chance of seeing some new 735-type irons out in the near future? Do you typically come out with new sets every couple years? Thanks.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on May 16, 2007 at 12:47 pm

Titleist does not adhere to any strict timelines for releasing new equipment. We develop many prototype products for performance-validation testing on Tour, and only release equipment once it has been “Tour approved”.
