Dudley Hart’s Bag

April 10th, 2007

Thought you all might enjoy a peek inside Dudley Hart’s bag as he prepares for this week’s Verizon Heritage Classic at Harbour Town Golf Links. The R.A.R. on Dudley’s bag are the first initials of his triplet children - Ryan, Abigail, and Rachel - whose names you may also notice stitched on his putter cover. You’ll also notice that Dudley, who was born in upstate New York, is a proud University of Florida Gator and huge Buffalo Sabres fan. Here’s what Dudley is playing with this week:

Dudley,
Thank you for sharing your wife’s success regarding her health concerns and recovery on national TV at Pebble Beach. It was great to find out she was a former special education teacher. Here is a website that may be of interest to your wife: http://mytimeandfreedom.com/DavidBolsega_ss3

Continued success,

Dudley,

It was great to see you back at the Sony. God bless to you and your family. I can’t wait to see you in the winner’s circle. As a father and a PGA Professional, it makes me happy to see that the PGA Tour has the exemptions in place for a husband and a father to take care of what is truly important. Take these exemptions and make the best of them. You deserve the best!!!

I have been looking for info on Dudley Hart and I can’t find any. I was at the Wachovia Championship and followed him until he withdrew. I was speaking to Suzanne Hart and she said he hit a root in Dallas at the Byron Nelson tournament. He was listed in the field the next few events but never teed it up. I am guessing he has had surgery? Is there an update on his playing status? Thanks very much.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on July 23, 2007 at 6:48 pm

Dudley’s wrist is fine, he has been taking some time away from the Tour to help out at home. Look for him to be back on Tour after the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Duds-
There are 14 different clubs in that bag since I saw you last but one thing certainly remains constant. They are all Titleist.
I would recommend only one change however. It’s about time that Sebastian the Ibis finally replaces that Al E. Gator, although I suppose you’re feeling pretty good about yourself due to those three national championship flukes in a row.
Which one of RAR has the best slapshot at this point?

In the listed clubs that Dudley is playing, there is no mention of a Scotty Cameron by Titleist putter. I know Dudley has been a long time Ambassador… is he not playing a Cameron putter right now?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 17, 2007 at 1:24 pm

Good catch…that was an oversight on our part. Dudley’s Circa 62 No. 2 is now listed above.

LET’S GO SABRES!!!! I think when the Sabres bring that Cup to Buffalo, you should bring us your 3rd Tour win!!!

Some Tour players prefer an open club face on there woods. What does the open clubface do?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 16, 2007 at 12:08 pm

For many players, the open clubface is a matter of personal preference, providing a better look in the address position.

Thanks for the site. What is the standard length for an 18° PT 906F2 fairway for your guys? I’m thinking 41½”? Any feedback would be awesome! Thanks.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 13, 2007 at 11:25 am

I like to build our 18° PT 906F2 fairways anywhere between 41½” and 42″.

What enhancements have been made to the PT 906F4 from the PT 906F2? Ball flight, shape, weight, etc.?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 11, 2007 at 2:51 pm

Please see the comments here pertaining to the PT 906F4 prototype.

Just as the UST Proforce V2 seemed to be the shaft of choice for staffers in the 905R, it appears that a majority are now playing the Aldila VS Proto in the 907D1 and 907D2. Why does this choice seem to be so popular among the Titleist staff players?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 11, 2007 at 1:38 pm

The VS Proto is a very good shaft and it just seems to match up really well with our guys on Tour in the 907D1 and 907D2 heads.

Do players change equipment based on the temperature up or down? In other words, does certain equipment react better in cold or hot weather (including balls)? It would seem that a cavity back and a softer ball might be a better choice in colder weather and a muscle back and harder ball in warm weather. Pure guess though.

Thanks.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 11, 2007 at 11:21 am

You might think players would change, but honestly, none of my players on Tour change any of their equipment (other than apparel) due to temperature.

I am wondering if most pros like Dudley find a large gap between their pitching wedge (48°) and 56° sand wedge? In asking, I’ve noticed other Tour players compensating with a 54° and 60° wedge combo in lieu of adding a 52° with the 56° and 60° and pulling out the 2-iron. Thanks.

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 11, 2007 at 2:05 am

Set composition is largely a matter of personal preference, one aspect of which is eliminating unwanted yardage gaps between clubs. For players who are comfortable playing less than full-swing shots with their pitching wedge, a gap from 48° to 56° is easily overcome and allows for an extra long game club. Players looking for more options in their wedge game will, conversely, need to sacrifice a long game club and could face a yardage gap between those clubs. A thorough review of set composition is one of the benefits of being fit by an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner.

I see Dudley Hart has a different shaft in his hybrid vs. fairway metal. Do players typically play a shaft in their 585.H that is similar to their fairway metals or their irons?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 11, 2007 at 1:49 am

It really depends on the player and the type of ball flight that they’d like to achieve with the utility. If you’re trying to determine which shaft to use in your utility club, we recommend consulting with an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner outfitted with a selection of long game fitting clubs.

Dudley, I have a driver that has 10.5° loft and a 65g shaft in it. I hit my driver about 270 yards and a little high. I am strongly considering a 907D2, but what shaft and loft do you think will fit me best?

Thanks!

Mike

As always, we recommend consulting with an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner to determine the correct specs for your new 907D2 or other Titleist golf club.

Mike Thompson wrote on April 10, 2007 at 7:59 pm

I am surprised that Dudley carries a 3-iron and a 19° hybrid. I would think that leaves a large gap between his 13.5° fairway and the hybrid. I tend to hit my 19° hybrid about the same distance as a 3-iron.

What am I missing?

THANKS!
Mike

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on April 10, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Mike-
I hit my hybrid about 230 yards and my 3-iron 210 yards. If I go with any more loft on my hybrid, it goes too high. My current setup just seems to work well for me. Take care.

Hi Dudley–It’s Amy Howard from Ft. Lauderdale. I’m one of Suzanne’s friends from Christ Church. I just heard about Suzanne and Brenda Burdick and I were trying to find out how to get in touch. Please have her e-mail me when she gets a chance. I’m so glad to hear she is doing better and you are doing great. Amy

Dudley,
Just wanted to say how much our group enjoyed the 9 holes in Richmond @ John Rollins’ gig for St. Joseph’s. Good to know you can hang powerfully with abusive teammates; must be the Buffalo in you. I think Irv (older guy) is still talking somewhere. Hope you enjoy your 2 weeks off with your wife and RAR. Thanks for coming down & supporting a great cause. Good luck on the Tour in ‘08 & on.
