Working with Ryuji Imada

March 28th, 2007

I worked with Ryuji Imada a lot this week, as he is trying to pull the trigger on making one of the new 907 drivers his gamer. I am still not sure what he is going to play in Houston, but I think it is just a matter of time before he makes the switch because he was hitting the 907D4 prototype solid on the range. He has stuck with the 905S all year with pretty good success, already posting three Top 20 finishes. He is happy with his distance, but his accuracy isn’t where he wants it to be. Ryuji is a good young player starting his third year on the PGA TOUR and an interesting story. He moved to Florida from Japan when he was 14 to work on his game. After a great junior career he went to the University of Georgia where he helped win a national championship. He finished runner-up to Luke Donald in the individual competition the same year. He turned professional after his sophomore year and had great success on the Nationwide Tour, earning his PGA Tour card for 2005. This kid has had success at every level and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win out here someday soon.

Looks like Ryuji might have been testing some new Scotty Cameron putters this week, too.

What model of Titleist putter did Ryuji use at the AT&T and is it available to the public?

Ryuji uses a prototype Scotty Cameron putter that is not available in golf shops.

Will there be a 907D3? What kind of characteristics will it have if released? 460cc or less?

Thanks for your help
Robert

There are no plans to extend the 907 drivers line beyond the 907D1 and 907D2.

I heard that Titleist is releasing a new version of the NXT and NXT Tour; any truth to this and, if so, when?

Yes, the new NXT Tour and NXT Extreme will be available later this month.

I understand the 907D4 is a Tour-only prototype. Is it possible that Titleist would offer the 907D4 as a special order rather than as a full-scale retail release? Speaking for myself and others, there is a great deal of interest in a non-460cc Titleist driver. Thanks.

The 907D4 prototype is still in testing. No decision has been made on if or when to release it.

What shaft is Ryuji trying out in the 907? What are the spin characteristics of the 907D2 vs. the 905R?

Titleist Golf Clubs wrote on March 29, 2007 at 12:26 pm

Please see the comment above regarding the shaft in Ryuji’s 907D4 prototype driver.

The launch and spin characteristics of the 905R and 907D2 are similar. The key performance benefit of the 907D2 is its enhanced MOI that provides for maximum ball speed on off-center impacts, which equates to longer distance, while still allowing for shot workability.

What is the difference between the the 907D1, 907D2 and the 907D4 drivers and will titleist be releasing any new drivers if they go down well on tour?

Great blog, Keep it up.

Please visit the 907 Drivers Microsite for more information on the new 907 drivers.

Titleist develops many prototype products for performance-validation testing on Tour. Some of these products are never released to the consumer market. Please check Titleist.com often for the most up-to-date product information.

I was wondering what the differences are between the 907D2 and 907D4? And what kind of shaft does Ryuji have in the 907D4 in the photo?

Thanks, I love this blog. I check it daily now!

How is the 907D4 different from the 907D2?

Thanks!

The 907D4 prototype has a 425cc clubhead vs. the 460cc 907D2.

Do a lot of the pros use 45″ drivers? I’m looking to get the 907D2, but I like my driver at 44.25″. Are my only options leadtape or a heavier shaft if I like my driver at 44.25″?

Great blog!!! Thank you in advance for any insight. Cheers.

Please see the comments here regarding driver lengths on Tour. We recommend getting fit by an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner to determine the ideal specs for your new 907D2.
