Rick Nelson with Adam Scott
March 21st, 2007
In the Titleist Tour Van, we can quickly make adjustments for players and then take it right onto the course. Adam has a 15° PT 906 prototype fairway wood that he asked to be bent 1/2° weaker to 15.5°. This kind of fine-tuning helps Adam get a specific yardage and trajectory. I like to walk the practice round with players to see how the clubs are working so after bending his 3-wood, I walked 9 holes with Adam, as did Butch Harmon. This is the best way to get feedback from the guys and watch the ball flight myself. This is the first week that Adam has a hybrid in his bag, a PT 585.H with 19° and an NV 85 shaft. Voke is also making a 248.06 wedge for Adam so I’ve included a photo of his work order sheet.
Adam played his practice round today with Charley Hoffman and Cobra player, Geoff Ogilvy. Both guys are great fun and strong players. I’ve included a few other photos from the group.

I was curious what clubs make up Adam’s bag? I know they change from week to week, but what would you say is a typical set up?
Please see the What’s in Adam’s Bag post.
I am curious about the pitching wedge. Do a majority of Tour players use some type of wedge to replace their PW, as in using a 48° Vokey Design wedge rather than say a 695MB PW? Thanks.
It’s a mixed bag — some of our players go with a Vokey Design wedge around 48° for their pitching wedge, many others use the pitching wedge that matches the iron model they are playing.
I have a question about changing the lofts on wedges and decided to come to the source instead of getting bad info from somewhere else. I am looking for a Vokey Oil Can 55° and SM59° setup. What lofts do you recommend I start with? Is it better to bend the originals weak or strong? Or is the bounce the main concern? Thanks for your time.
As always, we recommend visiting an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner to help you determine the correct specs for your new wedges. Something to keep in mind when changing the loft on a wedge is that the bounce will also change in direct proportion. For example, bending a 56° wedge with 10° bounce to 55° will decrease the bounce to 9°. Vokey Design wedges ordered through an Authorized Titleist Golf Shop can have their lofts customized 1° either way with the Tour Chrome finish, or 2° either way with the Oil Can finish.
I am planning on buying a Vokey Spin Milled wedge that has 60° loft with 8° bounce. Do you think 8° bounce is the right choice so that I could use this as my main wedge out of the sand?
We recommend visiting an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner to help you determine the correct wedges to put into play.
I am a left-handed player and I am trying to find woods that fit me correctly. Whenever I try to get fit somewhere they can never fit me correctly because there typically aren’t enough left-handed clubs for me to hit. If you could please give me some ideas on where best to get fit, it would be extremely helpful. Thanks.
We recommend phoning ahead to an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner in your area to determine the selection of left-handed demo clubs available for a fitting session. In the meantime, your request has been forwarded to our internal FittingWorks department for follow-up. Thanks.
Is there any chance of getting the T-grind SM into production or is it a Tour-only grind?
Please see the comments here for more on special grinds to Vokey Design wedges.
Hi, I want to get the VS Proto in 63g and a stiff flex in my 905R. Will this shaft help me with both distance and control?
We recommend that you visit an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner to help you determine the proper shaft for your 905R driver. That said, the VS Proto 65 is available for custom order in a new 905R, or you can have your current driver reshafted with this shaft through our repair department.
I love Adam Scott and I love the info I’m getting. I am buying a new set of irons this year and I would like to get the same as Scott. What does he use for irons and also I saw he was playing a custom #9 Pro V1. I was wondering if you could make a ball with the number 35 on the ball?
Adam Scott plays Titleist 695MB irons with TrueTemper Dynamic Gold steel shafts. We recommend utilizing an Authorized Titleist FittingWorks Partner to ensure that your new Titleist golf clubs have the correct specifications for your game.
Regarding the golf balls, the play numbers can be customized, however, there is a considerable upcharge for those other than the customary 1-8. They would have to be ordered and priced through an authorized Titleist golf shop. Thanks for your interest in Titleist.
Hi, what degree loft bounce and grind does Adam Scott use in his Vokeys? Great blog, thanks.
Ben:
Adam carries a pair of Spin Milled wedges. He has a SM56.10 that is bumped to 55° which gives him 9° of bounce. He also has a prototype SM60 with 5° of bounce. I hope this helps.
Bye. Voke
To answer outspokengolfer, yes, that is the Aldila VS Proto 80-X shaft, also know as the Proto ByYou.
Is that a Proto ByYou shaft? They are really popular in Canada.
To answer Elliot, see the follow-up post on Adam’s custom numbered Pro V1s. Also, Adam wasn’t having trouble with his new 907D2 driver, he just needed time to work with it. He was very happy with his previous 905R driver, and, as we all know, it’s tough sometimes to give up something we trust so much. Adam is playing a 9.5° 907D2 with a NV Blue By You 80-X shaft.
For Ben, please see the comments here for info on the shafts in Adam’s woods. Also, we currently offer the PT 906F2 as our fairway metal.
Hi, what shafts is Adam using in his woods? You say he has an NV in his hybrid, what happened to the V2? Also, will the 906F4 he plays ever become retail?
This new site is awesome! Just 2 quick questions though: Does Scotty have a superstition? A #9 on the ball could be thought as a bit drastic these days! And also, what made Adam change to the 907D2 because apparently he was having trouble with it before. Thanks.
I’m a big fan of Scott and I’m loving his swing now and I love watching him on the tour. Keep it up mate, cheers.
